What's happening
A surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) triggers the release of an egg, usually about 14 days before your next period. The egg survives for roughly a day, but sperm can survive for several days, so the fertile window includes the five days before ovulation and the day of it.
Common signs
- Cervical mucus that becomes clear, slippery, and stretchy
- A small rise in resting body temperature after ovulation
- Mild one-sided pelvic twinges for some people
- Higher energy or libido
